ANDERSON, Ind. (April 4, 2016) – Anderson police arrested a man who allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend with their 6-year-old son in the home.

UPDATE (2/28/17) – On Feb. 27, Willis was sentenced to 60 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend, Gina Tan.

David Anthony Willis, 52, faces preliminary charges of murder and criminal confinement.

According to court documents, police were called to the 3500 block of Brown Street on Sunday around 6 p.m. on a report of a person shot. When officers arrived on scene, they found an unconscious woman in the bath tub, and she was suffering from a gunshot wound to the back of her head.

The woman was later identified as Gina Tan, 27. Medics transported Tan to St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital where she later passed away. Additionally, the couple’s 6-year-old son and Tan’s mother were home at the time of the shooting.

According to Tan’s mother, Willis was mad at Tan, and he was planning to move out. Tan’s mother told police that the two got into an argument in their upstairs bedroom and a short time later she heard Tan say, “He won’t let me out of the room.”

The mother told police she walked upstairs, and that’s when she heard a gunshot. According to court documents, Tan’s mother grabbed Willis, and he fired another shot in the home.

Police interviewed Willis and arrested him for Tan’s murder.
