SPEEDWAY, Ind-- By now you know the record attendance expected at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this year.

If driving yourself to the track and waiting in traffic sounds like a nightmare, you might be planning on hailing a taxi or requesting a ride using Lyft or Uber.

However, all three of those transportation services will work differently on race day in anticipation of the big crowds.

"This was the busiest Carb Day I've seen in 25 years," said Mark Caplinger, a driver with AAA Hoosier Cab.

Caplinger has been behind the wheel a quarter century and he hasn't missed an Indy 500.

"The earlier the better if you want to get to your seats on time.  It's going to be a mess.

The taxi meters won't be running for fairs in Indianapolis to and from the track. It's a flat fare of $11 per person and a $44 minimum.

Drop off and pick up for taxis, Uber and Lyft drivers is at the intersection of Main and Gilman Streets. That is the only location you can request a ride near the track.

Demand will be high and increased or surge pricing is expected on both ride sharing apps. Also, make sure you are getting in the vehicle that you requested.  You can check the license plates, make and model of the car on Uber and Lyft.

Uber staff says they will have representatives at the drop-off location who will be equipped with phone charges in case your phone dies at the race and WI-FI high spots to combat potential  cell coverage problems.

If you are new to Lyft, they are giving Indianapolis passengers a $5 discount of their first 10 rides with the code "INDY500."
