As officers continued to check the residence, they came across the father of the boys asleep on the third floor.
49-year-old Raymond Davis III had to be awakened by officers. He told police he did not know he had been left to watch his sons after the grandparents had left.
Mr. Davis also told police he was not aware the 3-year-old had wandered off and had been gone for nearly an hour, wearing only a t-shirt.
Officers arrested Davis for neglect of a dependent and is being held without bond in the Jackson County Jail.
