INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Indianapolis Metropolitan police arrested a suspect after a man was shot and killed early Sunday morning in downtown Indianapolis.
Officers took 30-year-old Eric Middlebrook into custody in connection with the shooting, which happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of South Meridian Street and East South Street. IMPD said an officer was patrolling nearby when he heard a gunshot coming from a nearby parking lot and observed a man chase after and shoot another man.
Officers with IMPD’s Downtown District were dispatched and located a man suffering from at least one apparent gunshot wound. Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and pronounced the victim dead. The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 33-year-old Jeffery Reed.
The shooting suspect, identified later as Middlebrook, was taken into custody for questioning. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case for a final charging decision. IMPD characterized the shooting as an isolated incident.
