INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A fire forced two families to evacuate from a duplex on the city’s east side Monday evening.

Fourteen units with the Indianapolis Fire Department were called to the residence in the 100 block of N Colorado St. around 5 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, heavy fire was showing through the roof, threatening a home on its north side. Crews started an aggressive attack on the two-story fire and secured utilities.

A family of three was evacuated from one side of the residence, a father and two pre-teen children. A family of six was evacuated from the other side, two adults and four children. Three dogs were also rescued from the structure.

Officials say the fire was under control by 5:25 p.m. There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire, which caused an estimated $80,000 in damage, remains under investigation.
