1 killed in plane crash near Richmond

RICHMOND, Ind. — One person is dead after a plane crash near Richmond Sunday morning.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a single-engine Aerotek A240 crashed after departure a half-mile south of the Richmond Municipal Airport at about 8 a.m.

The pilot — identified as 78-year-old Judson Costlow, of Richmond — was the only person aboard the plane. Authorities say he was headed to visit family in Arizona.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

NOTE: Indiana State Police originally reported that the pilot was 74 years old but have since provided an update saying he was 78.
