INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –Indiana State Police say a motorcyclist was killed in a crash early Saturday morning on Indianapolis’ near southwest side.
The accident happened just after 2 a.m. on Interstate 70, near the Harding Street exit.
A caller reported a two-car collision in which one of the parties had fled the scene. The second vehicle, with rear end damage was stopped along the interstate and the driver was on the phone with a 911 operator.
Indiana State Police say before their troopers could get to the scene of the first crash, a motorcycle driven by 27-year-old Kayla Gullett of Winchester, Indiana, crashed into the rear end of the stopped car.
According to the trooper on the scene, Ms. Gullet was unconscious and not breathing. Despite life saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
ISP investigators say they have very little information about the vehicle that fled the scene of the original crash, however it should have very heavy front end damage.
Police were forced to close a section of I-70 immediately after the crash. All lanes were back open as of 5 a.m.
