JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. – A woman is dead after she tried to drive over train tracks but didn’t make it in time.

The coroner identified the victim as 20-year-old Shauna Synsael from Greenwood.

Deputies say she was driving eastbound along County Road 600 North in Whiteland when she came across railroad tracks.

While crossing the tracks, an 83-car CSX train hit her car.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is now trying to figure out why Synsael drove onto the tracks in the first place.

Also, there are no guardrails in that area, just stop signs. It’s unclear if that had anything to do with the crash, but it’s something we are looking into.

In the meantime, investigators cleaned the debris and opened the road again.

They’re trying to get video footage from the train company to see if they can find out exactly what led up to this tragic accident.
