INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Police reported a fatal motorcycle crash on the city’s near east side Thursday evening.

Officers responded to the scene at Southeastern Avenue and South Sherman Drive just before 7:30 p.m.

Witnesses on the scene told police the motorcycle was traveling west at a high rate of speed and ran a red light. An SUV traveling south struck the motorcycle, causing it to hit an eastbound car stopped at the red light.

Police said a motorcycle hit an SUV head on. The male driver of the motorcycle died and the female passenger was taken to Methodist Hospital in critical condition.
