UPDATE: All energy companies have either fully resolved their respective outages (AES and Duke Energy) or have said no more updates will be provided (Indiana-Michigan Power).
INDIANA — Customers with several different energy companies throughout Indiana reported power outages this weekend following severe storms throughout the area.
Customers with AES, Duke Energy and Indiana-Michigan Power all reported outages to varying degrees.
As of 1 p.m. Monday, around 1,000 Indiana-Michigan Power customers were without service in the Hoosier state, many of which were in the Marion area. Approximate outage counts conducted by the company for the following areas were:
- Muncie area: 170
- Marion area: 850
The company has brought in additional crews from Iowa, West Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee, Michigan and southern Indiana to assist.
As of Sunday, Duke Energy no longer shows any outages in these areas. The company initially had around 8,000 reported customer outages in the area around Kokomo and Greentown. As of 10:30 p.m. Saturday, that number was down to 240.
A spokesperson with company said Saturday that local crews have been responding all day to the outages and that outside contractors have also been brought in.
We have reached out to Duke for an update on the outages as of Sunday but have not heard back from the company.
According to the power company’s online outage map, AES no longer has any customers reporting outages in the Indianapolis metropolitan area. An AES spokesperson said that 3,079 customers reported outages as of 10:30 a.m. Saturday and that as of 10:15 p.m., 381 customers were without power.
