ANDERSON, Ind. — A woman is dead after she was hit by the driver of a city vehicle while crossing a road on her bike in Anderson, police said Wednesday.

According to the Anderson Police Department, officers and EMS were called around 12:35 p.m. to the intersection of W. 19th Street and Madison Avenue for a vehicle collision.

Upon arrival, APD said officers found an adult female who had been struck by a person driving an Anderson city truck.

That woman, identified by APD as 38-year-old Christine Barton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to APD, preliminary details show that Barton was riding her bike eastbound on 19th Street when the crash occurred.

“While crossing, [Barton] collided with the Anderson City truck traveling southbound,” APD said in a release.

According to detectives, the driver of the truck and “all parties involved” are fully cooperating with an investigation by APD’s crash team.

The case, APD said, is open and active. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has more information is being asked to call APD Sgt. Nick Durr at (765) 648-6660.

Roads in the area were being shut down for several hours as crash teams investigated.
