Star Derry joined the CBS 4 Weather Authority in March of 2018.

Star earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Climatology & Hydrology from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. Star’s meteorology career has kept her close to home. She grew up in Tinley Park, Illinois and was lucky enough to start her career at WIFR in Rockford, Illinois. After that, Star moved to WKOW in Madison, Wisconsin. After living in the Badger state, Star made the trip to WTTV here in Indianapolis. Star specializes in severe weather coverage and climatology.

Outside of work, Star spends her time on the trails with her horse, Kentucky Rain or playing with her cat, Alice.

    It’s a foggy start for many on this Fourth of July.  The haze has reached the city but the most dense fog is south toward Bloomington.     Just a small number of storms sliding through central Indiana this morning.  We are expecting more widespread rain coverage later in the afternoon on Wednesday. Rain totals today should be a third of an inch or less. Storms are very isolated this morning but will become more widespread after 2 p.m.  Wind gusts and heavy rain are the main concerns, but hail cannot be ruled out.   • Tracking many rain chances and extreme heat

    Through the end of the week we will have daily rain chances totaling an inch to an inch and a half area wide. We could see a few storms develop later this afternoon.  They aren’t expected to be strong, but a few downpours are possible.   • Heat wave in Indiana plus tracking rain

    Saturday was the first time this year that Indianapolis hit 90°.  Terre Haute and a couple of other places in Indiana did see 90 before that.  Average highs are only in the mid 80s this time of the year, but it looks like we’ll hit 90° again on Monday.  Three days in a row is an official “heat wave” and we’ll fall into that category Monday.  Welcome to July!     What a gorgeous summer morning!  Waking up in the low 70s and with a beautiful sunrise on this final Friday of June. The next couple of days will bring extreme heat, including what will likely add up to be our first official heat wave.  Cars can reach over 100° in less than ten minutes, so it is very important when traveling with kids that you look before you lock.   • Feeling hot hot hot as summer heat arrives in central Indiana

    It is definitely feeling like summer!  We’ve had 80s the last two days and won’t have a problem doing that again Thursday.  Early morning temps are starting in the low 70s, which will make it easy to heat right back up.  The average high this time of the year is 85.     Dry for Monday morning’s commute, but we are keeping an eye on storms pushing through Tennessee and Kentucky.     Can’t beat this forecast!  Much cooler than last year and no rain until after midnight.  Enjoy the 70s and a refreshing breeze upon arrival with temps dropping back to the 60s after sunset.
