In 2012, Spehler & the Fox 59 crew won an Emmy for their coverage of the South Side explosion, and Dan was also honored with an Emmy for his “Hoosier Heroes” series which launched in 2013, highlighting the achievements and struggles of our brave men and women in uniform. Spehler was again awarded an Emmy for his 2014 report on school bus safety. Dan was also awarded an Emmy for his political reporting during the 2016 election, when he conducted the very first interview with then-Gov. Pence after Pence was chosen as the Republican candidate for Vice President. Dan’s work in Indy has also been honored by the Indiana chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Indiana Associated Press.
Originally from Ohio, Dan is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, and has also worked at television stations in Toledo and Dayton, before first moving to Indianapolis in 2005.
