INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – One person is dead after an overnight crash on Indy’s west side.

The Indiana State Police department said the crash happened just after 4 Saturday morning on the ramp from I-465 southbound to Washington Street.

When emergency crews arrived, they found a man that was ejected from a vehicle and was seriously injured. They transported him to a local hospital where he later died.

Crews also found another man walking alongside the road and collapsed shortly afterward. He was also transported to the hospital.

An initial investigation indicates that for some reason, the driver drove his Cevrolet Trailblazer off the side of the road where it overturned. The passenger, who was not wearing his seat belt, was ejected during the crash. Officers believe drugs might be a factor in this crash.

The driver now faces preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, along with possession of a syringe.

The names of the men involved are being withheld pending notification to the family.
