DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. – One person is dead after an accident on the Prairie Creek Reservoir.

The accident happened Sunday morning at the reservoir located just southeast of Muncie.

The Department of Natural Resources says 71-year-old Leonard Anderson was ejected from the boat he was operating after crashing into another vessel. After the crash, his boat continued operating in circles until conservation officers could disable the boat’s motor.

Witnesses pulled him from the water, but efforts to revive Anderson were unsuccessful. The witnesses told police that Anderson may have had a medical emergency before the cash.

The DNR says Anderson was not wearing a life jacket or his engine cutoff lanyard before the crash. DNR officers reminded people about the importance of wearing safety equipment while boating.
