1 man, 2 dogs dead following crash on I-70 near Post Road

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A man and two dogs are dead after a crash on I-70 near Post Road in Indianapolis, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday, responders were called to mile marker 92.5 on I-70 in regards to a multi-vehicle crash.

According to investigators, a semi traveling at a rate of speed below the posted speed limit failed to realize that traffic was coming to a stop due to a construction zone and crashed into the back of a van. The van was pushed into a sedan, which collided with another semi.

IFD says the two dogs were ejected from the van and killed.

The driver of the van — a man in his 60s — suffered traumatic cardiac arrest, and bystanders performed CPR on him until responders arrived, according to IFD.

The man was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital, where he later died.

Police say the deceased man is not an Indiana resident. They are withholding his identity until his family is notified.

IFD says two occupants of the sedan — who have been described as men in their 40s — were taken to Eskenazi Hospital in “good condition.”

Authorities do not believe alcohol to have been a factor in the crash.

All eastbound lanes are now open after having been closed for roughly three hours.
