Teenager dies in shooting on Indy’s south side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A 17-year-old was shot and killed on the south side of Indianapolis, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to the 300 block of West Edwards Avenue in response to a person shot. Officers arrived on scene and found the teen suffering from a single gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Oswin Ortiz.

Investigators say some type of disagreement involving Ortiz and one or more individuals occurred by the road, which then escalated into gunfire, resulting in the teen’s death. Police don’t know if the shooting happened by a people in a car or if those involved were on foot.
