Stabbing investigation on I-70 in Wayne County on Aug. 16, 2019

WAYNE COUNTY, Ind. – A man was taken to the hospital after being stabbed on I-70 in Wayne County, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

At 6:09 p.m. Friday, deputies were called to the 154 mm on Interstate 70 east in response to a disabled semi.

When the first deputy to arrive made contact with the occupants of the semi, the deputy discovered one of the occupants was suffering from apparent stab wounds. Sheriff Randy Retter says the man was first taken to Reid Health in Richmond and then transported to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. The person’s condition is unknown at this time.

The other occupant of the semi, 47-year-old Pavel Nery-Gonzalez, of Miami, Florida, was taken in to custody in relation to the investigation.

Officials say the semi was later removed and secured for additional crime scene processing.

Due to the investigation, eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed near US 151 for nearly five hours.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
