Fatal accident in Boone County claims one life
BOONE COUNTY, Ind. — The Boone County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed one fatality after a head-on vehicle collision on State Road 47.
According to police, the accident occurred around 8 a.m. on Saturday morning near 6100 E. State Road 47, just east of Elizaville.
Officers say they received calls of a small black car headed eastbound on SR 47 that was all over the road. As they were responding, police say another 911 call stated the car had crashed.
As deputies arrived, they say they pulled 45-year-old Tammy Annette Kelly, of Kirklin, out of her black Chrysler 200. They began performing CPR before she was rushed to Witham Hospital by medics. She was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Officials say the other driver involved was a 63-year-old from Arizona. He stated he was traveling westbound on SR 47 when he noticed a black Chrysler heading eastbound toward him that appeared to be swerving. The driver says the Chrysler drove off the south side of the roadway, over-corrected, and fishtailed into him, despite his efforts to avoid the vehicle.
The 63-year-old was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital for minor injuries.
State Road 47 was closed between Elizaville and US 421.
The Boone County FACT team was called to reconstruct the scene. Police say they will continue to investigate, as it is unclear at this time why Kelly traveled off the roadway.
