ISP: No police video of trooper’s killing of man

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — State police say there’s no body or dash camera video of a state trooper’s fatal shooting of a man along a western Indiana highway.

Police spokesman Sgt. Kim Riley said Monday the cruiser driven by the trooper who shot 56-year-old Glenn A. Rightsell of Linden didn’t have a dash camera, and Indiana’s state troopers aren’t equipped with body cameras.

Police say the trooper shot Rightsell after he failed to follow his orders and allegedly grabbed a handgun on his own waist Friday night.

The shooting occurred outside an abandoned sport-utility vehicle the trooper had tagged hours before along U.S. 231 in Montgomery County.

Rightsell’s nephew, Matt Clark, tells the Journal & Courier his uncle was working on his daughter’s stalled SUV and he always carried a gun on his belt.
