Two motorists were killed early Wednesday in separate traffic crashes – that occurred within six miles of each other – along a snow-slickened eastbound Interstate 74, authorities said.

The first deadly accident happened around 3:30 a.m. when a driver lost control, struck a guardrail and rolled his Jeep multiple times. The incident took place along I-74 east near mile-marker 128 in Decatur County. Indiana State Police identified the deceased driver as 58-year-old Rickie Meece of Greensburg.

The second fatal collision occurred about 5:30 a.m. when a woman’s car was t-boned by a semi-truck after spinning out of control and striking a guardrail on I-74 east near mile-marker 122. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department said the woman died at the scene, but her identity had not yet been confirmed.

Investigators said the two crashes appeared to be weather-related as snow was falling during the early morning hours and the interstate was partially snow covered and slick.
