UPDATE: Pilot of crop-dusting helicopter that crashed in Shelby County identified
SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. – The pilot of a crop-dusting helicopter who died after the aircraft crashed in Shelby County last week was an accomplished pilot and bus driver for Mooresville Consolidated Schools.
Authorities say it happened July 6 near CR 750 E and CR 800 N, which is southeast of Gwynneville. Indiana State Police handled the initial investigation before turning it over to the FAA. Sgt. John Perrine said on Twitter that the pilot was the only occupant.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department identified the deceased as 52-year-old Kerry D. Lee of Mooresville.
According to his obituary from Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Lee was a graduate of Mooresville High School and co-owner of Central Indiana Ag Services. He was described as a accomplished pilot and also served as a bus driver for Mooresville Consolidated Schools.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, authorities said.
