Church active shooter training goes for realistic to prepare for the unthinkable
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Another church learning how to respond to the unthinkable.
But this time, New Direction decided to make it as realistic as possible, to help teach their congregation and community how to protect themselves from a mass shooter.
“Get down on the ground! Get down on the ground!” screamed the police officers acting as gunmen with realistic toy guns.
After the Texas church shooting last month, the church’s pastor decided to provide active shooter training.
The church already has security and has officers as members of the congregation in each service. But the pastor wanted people who attend the church to know how to take care of themselves too.
“Heaven forbid like that should ever happen, as a greeter here, I’m typically out front, so hopefully if anything like that would happen, I could be one of those leaders, so I appreciate the being prepared part,” said church greeter Jetra Daniels.
Former IMPD Deputy Chief Bill Benjamin worked on re-mapping their brains to run always if possible and hide well and prepare to fight if not.
