Alexandria man suffers broken bones, lacerations in off-road vehicle crash

MADISON COUNTY, Ind. – Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor is an off-road vehicle accident that “badly injured” an Alexandria man on Saturday.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says Mathew Montgomery, 39, was thrown from the ORV behind a home in the 2600 block of South County Road 500 West in Madison County. Officers responded to the crash around 9:15 p.m. after receiving a 911 call.

Montgomery told officers that he had struck something that caused him to be ejected over the handlebars. The ORV then reportedly ran over him before coming to a stop in a brush pile.

Montgomery suffered multiple broken bones and lacerations, including a gash in his chin and one on top of his head. He was reportedly wearing gloves and goggles at the time, but was not wearing a helmet.

Officers want to remind the public to never drink before riding off-road vehicles. They also encourage people to wear proper safety gear, especially a helmet.

This incident remains under investigation.
