Person taken to hospital after IMPD officer’s gun accidentally discharges during lieutenant’s funeral

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Gunshots were discharged inside Bankers Life Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon after the funeral of Southport Lt. Aaron Allan.

According to IMPD dispatchers, a gun belonging to an IMPD discharged accidentally and someone was shot in the leg. That person was taken to Eskenazi Hospital.

Video showed the victim being taken out of the venue in a stretcher. A woman was grazed in the leg, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. The victim is an employee of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.

The woman was taken to Eskenazi and said to be in good condition.

The officer’s name is not being released as no malice, negligence or criminal act was determined to be a factor in this incident.
