INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Indiana State Police say a motorcycle driver was seriously injured Monday in a crash.

The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. on northbound I-65, just past the south split near the 110 mile marker. Troopers say a Hyundai SUV and Honda motorcycle were involved.

Witnesses reported the driver of the motorcycle, 42-year-old Scott Thipps of Indianapolis, was driving at a high rate of speed and cutting in and out of traffic just before the crash. The right side of Thipps’ motorcycle struck the SUV driven by Carry Michaels, 43, causing him to lose control.

Thipps was not wearing a helmet, police say. He was taken to Methodist Hospital. Michaels was not injured and her SUV suffered minor damage.

State police say the crash restricted northbound lanes for about two hours. The accident is still under investigation. At this time, drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor.
