INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Police are investigating after a woman was struck and killed on the southeast side early Thursday morning.

Dispatchers said it happened just before 4 a.m. at Flintstone Drive and Emerson Avenue.

Police said the woman was standing in the street asking a driver for directions when another vehicle struck her. She died from her injuries.

The driver stayed at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation. He was on his way to work when it happened. Police said a blood draw will be administered, which is standard procedure in such crashes. They don’t believe intoxicants played a role in the crash.

Both northbound and southbound lanes on Emerson were closed immediately after the crash. By 6:10 a.m., Emerson had reopened.
