INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- Monday, December 19 is expected to be the busiest mailing day of the 2016 holiday season.

The U.S. Postal Service estimates it will deliver 750 million packages this Christmas.

Lines at central Indiana post offices could be especially long this week with a lot of Hoosiers stuck at home this past weekend due to snow and ice in the area.

Officials say the best time to drop of a letter of package is either when the post office opens or mid-afternoon

In an effort to keep the line moving, you’re asked to have your package or letter addressed before you show up to the post office to send it.

Another tip, don’t try and guess the zip code of the person you’re sending to because guessing incorrectly will delay delivery.

“That’s most important because you want the card to get to your loved ones by the holiday you don’t want it to be sent back to you because there’s no valid zip on it,” said Mary Dandle, spokesperson for the U.S. Postal Service.

Here’s a list of the upcoming holiday delivery deadlines:

Dec. 20 – First-Class Mail Cards and Letters
Dec. 21 – Priority Mail
Dec. 23 – Priority Mail Express

The longer you wait, the more expensive it is to guarantee delivery before Christmas.
