INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash on the southwest side of Indianapolis.

Dispatchers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said 51-year-old Chris Hamilton, of Indianapolis, was killed while riding his tricycle at 5055 W. Troy Ave.

Investigators believe Hamilton was riding westbound on Troy when he was struck possibly around 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening. However, the incident wasn’t called in until 6:00 a.m. Friday morning.

The homeowners where his body was found at reported hearing a loud noise Thursday night, but they didn't see anything when they looked outside because it was dark. When they got up Friday morning, they found the victim and his tricycle.

“Nobody should have to go that way,” Sue Hamilton, the victim’s mother, said.

Hamilton said her son was on his way to her home from his brother’s house when he was hit Thursday night. Hamilton said this loss is especially difficult because Chris was her primary caretaker.

“I lost my right arm,” Hamilton said. “That was my baby. I don’t care if he was 51, he was my baby.”

At this time there are no witnesses, suspects, vehicle description, or vehicle pieces left at the scene of the crash. Detectives are asking anyone who was in the area between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Thursday to call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.
