INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Indianapolis Metropolitan police officers in the Homeless Unit helped out a man who was nearly suffering from frostbite on his feet.

Officers Smiley and Simmons were checking on homeless individuals Wednesday and came across a man who wasn’t far away from having frostbite. They changed his socks, brought him inside and transported him to be checked on medically.

The socks were a donation, and they are working to get more.

IMPD’s Homeless and Recently Housed collection drive is on Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at IMPD Downtown District, located at 39 W. Jackson Place. The officers and members from the Pourhouse will be outside to greet those who want to donate, so you won’t need to get out of your car!

The following items are needed most:

  • Men’s Hats
  • Men’s Gloves
  • Men’s Hoodies/Sweatshirts (XL and larger only)

  • 13-gallon trash bags
