Man driving car onto railroad tracks plummets into nearby creek

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A man driving his SUV on the railroad tracks plunged into a creek early Saturday morning.

This happened a little after 12:30 a.m., around 901 E Pleasant Run Parkway South Drive on the city’s near south side.

Police say the man was driving his vehicle on the railroad tracks going east at the intersection of Pleasant Run Parkway and Beecher. The driver then lost control on the bridge overpass, plummeting into Pleasant Run Creek. The vehicle landed on its roof, submerged in about a foot of water.

Firefighters extracted the driver, who was was alert and suffered only slight injuries.  He was taken to Eskanazi Hospital to be checked out and tested for alcohol intoxication.

Crews worked to extract everything from the crash site at least until 2:33 this morning.
