UPDATE (June 26, 2018)– Eric Butler pleaded guilty to dealing in a narcotic drug and was sentenced to 10 years in the Indiana Department of Correction with four years suspended and 355 days of jail credit. He was also ordered to take parenting classes.

Original story:

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A member of the notorious Indianapolis “Grundy Gang” has been arrested.

Eric Butler was taken into custody Thursday night during a traffic stop at Roosevelt and Holloway Avenue.

Police found a large mason jar of marijuana and 50 grams of heroin in Butler’s car. During the arrest, Butler scuffled with an officer, police said, pulling violently away from the officer who was trying to handcuff him.

The officer was hurt during the incident, suffering a sprained right thumb and bruises on his left hand. Both knees on the officer’s uniform pants were torn, police said.

Butler currently has several open cases in Marion County, including cases for possession of marijuana, visiting a common nuisance and dealing marijuana, court records show.

At the time of the arrest, Butler was on home monitoring, and the arrest violates the terms of his pretrial release. He was one of 11 people arrested in a federal bust involving the Grundy gang. That case also involved drug-related charges.
