BROWNSBURG, Ind.– A judge has ordered Brownsburg to stop its annexation plans.

The town has been fighting to annex 1,200 Hendricks County properties since 2013, but Brown Township residents weren’t happy with the plans.

The residents took their case to court and spent thousands of dollars to stop the annexation.

Judge Heather Welch ruled that the annexation may not proceed, signaling a victory for the residents. The court determined that the annexation territory is not subdivided, nor is it needed.

Brownsburg says it has not yet fully reviewed the court’s opinion, but will “attempt to meet soon with the council and the town’s attorney to consider our options.”

Brownsburg cannot attempt to involuntarily annex any part of this territory for four years, unless they appeal the decision and win.
