INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Carmel High School and Avon High School marching bands are officially the best in the nation.
Bands from all over the country battled it out inside a packed Lucas Oil Stadium Saturday to take the top prize at the 2016 Bands of America National Championship.
Musicians went through a brutal two day, prelims-finals style competition. Performances for the finals kicked off about 7:45 in the afternoon and did not end until around 11:00 p.m.
Carmel clenched the top spot. The Avon Marching Black and Gold went home with a solid second place finish, also winning Outstanding Musical Performance and Outstanding Visual Performance.
According to results given by Bands of America, the two bands actually tied until Carmel got a higher Outstanding General Effect ranking.
And other Indiana schools showed up to win, too. Castle High School out of Newburgh and Homestead High School of Ft. Wayne also finished in the top twelve, clenching the tenth and eleventh spots respectively.
