2 suspects arrested after robberies lead to early morning chase

UPDATE (Oct. 25, 2017) — Leobardo Sanchez pleaded guilty to robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. He was sentenced to 10 years on both counts, with both sentences running concurrently. In addition, 4 years of his sentence were suspended and he was given credit for the 335 days he served in jail. The sentence includes 4 years in the Department of Correction and 2 years in Community Corrections.

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. – Police arrested two people after a pair of early morning robberies and a police chase.

According to Lawrence police, the first robbery happened around midnight at a Village Pantry in McCordsville. In that case, two people robbed the store at gunpoint and got away with money.

About an hour later, the BP at 9200 East 56th Street in Lawrence was robbed; witnesses reported seeing a white SUV speeding away from the scene.

A Lawrence police officer spotted the vehicle and tried to pull it over, but the SUV took off. The suspects drove toward Greenfield and ended up in an industrial area on Mt. Comfort Road near I-70.

The suspects got out of the car and tried to run away, but police arrested them. Officers recovered two guns during the incident.

Both suspects, later identified as Anthony Lopez, 23, and Leobardo Sanchez, 20, face a preliminary charge of robbery, and police are working to figure out if they may be connected to other robberies in the area.
