INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– The Republican nominee for 7th Congressional District Cat Ping found herself in the middle of a shooting on the northeast side, according to attorney Jacob Lawrence.

The incident occurred around 1:10 p.m. Friday. Ping was not injured, but a bullet did go through her back window and lodged in the front windshield.

Police confirm a person was shot while sitting at a light at 38th Street and Emerson Avenue. The victim reported the shooting to an officer in the 3400 block of Gladstone Avenue.

He was shot in the right shoulder. Police say they were also monitoring other reports of shots fired in the same area.

Ping said she felt her hair “puff” as the bullet missed her head. She said she feels fortunate she was not struck, and hopes the victim is safe. Police said they will have extra officers working the area tonight.

Ping is up against Congressman Andre Carson for the Indiana 7th District seat.
