BROOKSTON, Ind--Sometimes a phone call can be the difference between hope and despair.
On Thursday Jennifer Dawson, a mother of two from Brookston, learned that lesson.
For nearly four days Dawson thought her son Brock was missing, police say the 15 year-old left the special needs facility he was living at in Terre Haute on Monday. He hadn’t been seen since.
Dawson says her son is on the severe end of the autism spectrum and has problem processing information and experiences. So when he went missing they feared the worst.
Dawson reached out to CBS4 in an attempt to help spread the word and create awareness that her son was missing, but while our cameras where there she received a phone call from someone saying they had found her son.
Minutes later, Dawson’s husband, who was in Terre Haute at the time searching for their son, was reunited with him. Dawson described the experience as a “whirlwind.”
“I want to run outside and scream with joy. There are no words. I mean it’s just, relief,” she said.
Dawson says her son was found miles away from where he went missing. Other than being a little hungry, she says he seems “fine.”
The family says they are still working on figuring out where the teen has been the past few days.
