Salem man dies while logging in Jackson-Washington State Forest

SALEM, Ind.– Conservation officers are investigating the death of a man who was logging at Indiana’s Jackson-Washington State Forest Monday.

Officers responded to the forest, near the Mail Route outside of Salem shortly after 12 p.m.

Thomas Sidwell, 44, of Salem, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe a large limb from a dead tree became dislodged, and struck Sidwell.

Sidwell was a contracted logger and was discovered by a fellow employee. He was wearing a safety helmet at the time of the incident.

The incident remains under investigation.
