Driver critically hurt after crash on southeast side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A driver went to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition after a crash on the southeast side of Indianapolis early Thursday morning.

The crash happened around 5:50 a.m. near Shelbyville Road and Edgewood Avenue.

According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police, a van going north on Shelbyville Road ran off the road and rolled over just south of Edgewood. The van hit a tree.

Crews extricated the trapped driver, who was then taken to Methodist. The Indianapolis Fire Department said extrication took about 40 minutes.

Shelbyville Road was closed near the scene so police could investigate and reconstruct the crash.
