INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- As voter registration nears its end and counties prepare to open early voting on Wednesday, Marion County is calling on its residents to help out in a big way.

Russell Hollis, with the Marion County Clerk's Office, said the county needs 600 people to step up and help on election day, in order to ensure results are in on time. That's compared to just 50 poll workers who helped out on primary day.

"State law changed a few years ago and so this is the first Presidential election where we will centrally count those absentee ballots at our election center," Hollis said.

Hollis said they expect a record number of early and absentee voters, near to the number who showed up in 2008, meaning a potential 70,000 or so ballots that will need to be opened, sorted and counted on election night.

You do get paid to help out, so if you're interested, you can call the Clerk's office at (317) 327-5100.

As for anyone else, it's important to check your voter registration before the deadline on Tuesday night.

You can register until closing time in person at county offices, and until 11:59 p.m. online at the link here. You can also download the "Indiana Voters" app and register there.
