South side crash claims life of motorcyclist

INDIANAPOLIS, –A motorcyclist was killed  in an accident with another vehicle Sunday evening.

Shortly after 5 p.m., Metro Police were called to the 7300 block of South Meridian  Street on a report of a serious crash involving a motorcycle.

When officers arrived they located a critically injured male who had been riding a motorcycle.  He was taken to Eskenazi Hospital  where he later died of his injuries.  The occupants of the other vehicle involved were not hurt.

Accident investigators say they believe the motorcycle was southbound on Meridian Street when a vehicle exiting a parking lot was turning left to go north on Meridian Street.  The motorcyclist was reportedly unable to stop in time to avoid the collision and was thrown from his bike.

Police say the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The name of the motorcyclist will not be released until family members have been notified.
