Many people recognize the cover of Nirvana’s “Nevermind” album, but most probably wouldn’t recognize the naked baby boy who graced the cover.
That’s because he’s 25 now and has significantly more hair, not unlike the members of the grunge band that helped define a generation.
To honor the 25th anniversary of the album’s release, Spencer Elden decided to return to the water to reenact the cover, but this time he wore clothes. Elden wanted to do the photo-shoot naked again, but the photographer told him it might be weird, Elden told the New York Post.

“The anniversary means something to me. It’s strange that I did this for five minutes when I was four months old and it became this really iconic image,” Elden told the Post.
Photographer Kirk Weddle was the one who originally asked Elden’s parents if he could use him for Nirvana’s cover, according to Time magazine. The shoot lasted 15 seconds and Elden’s parents made only $200, Elden’s father told NPR. Earlier this month, Elden was paid the same amount to get back in the water.
You can see more photos from the recreation shoot here. Below, is the New York Post’s interview with Elden.
