INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.–- A man walked away with minor injuries after his SUV struck a gas pump and caught fire this morning.

Wayne Township firefighters responded to a call from the Shell Gas Station at 7901 West 10th Street around 3 a.m.   Upon arrival, they found the driver’s SUV in flames.

The driver refused to get out of the vehicle and had to be pulled from the car from and IMPD officer. That man was checked on scene for minor injuries, then taken into custody by police.

Authorities are still investigating what caused the SUV to initially run into the gas pump.  The emergency shutoff on the pumps stopped the flow of gasoline and prevented the fire spreading, but the pumps will remain out of service until they are repaired.
