INDIANAPOLIS, Ind—Indianapolis police continue to search for a carjacker who was caught on camera stealing a pickup truck.

The victim in this case was on his way to football practice with his son when they stopped to buy a drink. The father left his son alone in the truck for just a few moments before the thief struck.

Video shows the father and son get out of the truck when the suspect jumped behind the wheel and drove away.

“He came rushing out.  He stole my stuff and I was real sad,” said the victim, Kaden.

Kaden says the man seen in surveillance pictures reached into his dad’s truck.

Sgt. DuBois says when Kaden’s father confronted the carjacker in the parking lot, the suspect pulled out a gun.  The surveillance video does not confirm that description.

The video does not match the victim’s claim that the suspect dragged the boy out of the truck. Still, police say the armed thief is clearly a danger and needs to be caught.

“I mean if he’s willing to confront a kid and yank him out of the car and when the parent comes to him to show his gun, he’s got an attitude and he needs to be seen by a judge,” said DuBois.

While the suspect sped away in their truck, luckily Kaden and his dad weren’t hurt.

Police say the case is an important safety reminder to never leave your keys in your car when you go into a store.

“In this day and age you just can’t do it anymore.  You don’t know what people are out there and what they’re capable of.  Just like this guy.  He didn’t care there was a boy in the truck,” said DuBois. “We just have to be careful.  Lock your cars and do not leave them running.”

For his part young Kaden just hopes this suspect is caught before he steal from anyone else.

“I want him to be caught because he stole my dad’s car,” said Kaden.

The carjacker did get away with the victim’s truck which is described as a green Dodge Dakota with Indiana license plate number TK502MYP.
