Man arrested in connection with rape, burglary in Bloomington on Sept. 5
On May 2, 2018, Devin Grounds pleaded guilty to rape in connection with the Sept. 5, 2016 incident. On Oct. 8, he was sentenced to 30 years in the Department of Correction.
Grounds was charged in a second case on September 19, 2016.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—A 28-year-old man was arrested in connection with the burglary and rape of a woman in Bloomington on Sept. 5.
Officers found Devin Grounds at an apartment on South Henderson Street and he was transported to the Monroe County Jail. Ground faces charges of rape, burglary and theft.
Bloomington Police said a DNA sample was collected at the crime scene and led to the identification of Grounds.
Grounds is accused of breaking into a woman’s apartment in the 2000 block of N. Walnut Street around 4 a.m. on Sept. 5. The woman reported the intruder threatened to kill her and proceeded to rape her. The suspect fled the scene with the victim’s cell phone.
Detectives are still investigating other incidents that occurred on Sept. 5 and Sept. 8, when police received reports an unknown male entered unlocked residences on the south side of Bloomington.
