FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after thieves broke into a solar field in Franklin Tuesday night, causing $15,000 or more in damage.

A sheriff’s deputy responded to the reported theft in 2400 block of South State Road 135 Wednesday, where he spoke with a Banta Electric employee who discovered the break-in.

The employee said he found a hole in the side of a trailer on the property around 6:30 a.m., then realized thieves had used it to steal items from electrical boxes and cut out copper wires. Another employee at the solar site says he had a black tool bag located in the trailer that was broken into.

Surveillance cameras on the property captured the at least three, possibly four individuals at the scene between 10:26 p.m. and 1:12 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office tip-line at (317) 346-4654.
