Avon bus driver receives praise from community for ‘stick figure family’ decal
AVON, Ind. – A lot of parents have stick figure family decals on the back of their vehicles to represent their children.
One Avon bus driver took the concept to a whole new level when she made a stick figure family to represent all of the children that ride on her bus.
Susan Petty became a bus driver for Avon School Corporation at the end of the last school year.
She’s always enjoyed looking at the stick figure families people put on the back of their cars. As the start of the school year approached, she decided a similar decal would add a nice touch to her school bus.
So she started looking online at decals, and eventually she found a woman on Etsy that was willing to make her a decal with 35 children. Each stick figure child represents one of the students she drives.
“I consider the students on my bus to be my kids, and I treat them like family. Some days I even see them more than my own children!” Petty said.
Assistant Transportation Administrator Keith Haston says he’s never seen a bus driver do that in all of the years he’s worked there.
The decal is receiving a lot of positive attention from people in the community, and parents think it’s great that she cares about the students on her bus so much.
Petty says she put the decal on her bus just two days ago, and she’s surprised that it’s getting so much attention.
