INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – An IMPD officer was hospitalized following a crash on the city’s north side Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred just before 6:45 a.m. at the intersection of 79th Street and Ditch Road.

According to police, two IMPD squad cars were following an IFD truck south on Ditch Road as they were headed to a personal injury accident.

The fire engine cleared the intersection, then just as the first squad car came through, a woman in a black SUV headed westbound hit the squad car.

The impact of the crash pushed the squad car into a utility pole, and the officer had to be extracted from her car.

She was complaining of leg pain, and she was taken to Methodist Hospital.

The driver of the SUV was taken to St. Vincent Hospital as a precaution.

The second squad car following the first car was not involved in the crash.
