INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Homicide detectives were called to investigate after a man’s body was found in a pond on the city’s northwest side Saturday morning.

A dive team pulled the body of Andre Cooper, 38, out of the water in the 7700 block of Santa Monica Drive, near 79th Street and Georgetown Road shortly before noon.

Police say the man was semi-homeless and staying with his sister when he disappeared Wednesday night. The last time he was seen, he had reportedly gone outside to smoke, carrying a bottle of alcohol.

Police say the sister didn’t immediately report him missing, because he ordinarily left for days at a time. But when she learned that he hadn’t been at work for two days, she filed a missing persons report Saturday.

While officers were completing the missing persons report, a call came in saying a body had been seen floating in a retention pond behind the dispatched address. When crews arrived, they recovered the man.

The Marion County coroner will conduct an autopsy to rule on an exact cause of death. Detectives do not suspect foul play and believe that this could be an accidental drowning

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317)327-TIPS(8477.
