INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Indianapolis streets are about to get a little brighter at night.

Mayor Joe Hogsett announced the location of 25 new street light installations Wednesday as part of “Operation Night Light,” a project that will address the need for street lights in Indianapolis communities.

Phase one calls for the addition of 100 new lights. The city also performed a comprehensive study of Indy street lights with help from Indianapolis Power & Light.

Over the past 60 days, the Department of Public Works has worked with Hogsett, community development planners and public safety officials to analyze requests from Indianapolis residents concerning street lights. The city also looked at IMPD focus areas, traffic patterns and accident reports to identify areas most in need.

IPL will work to install the first new lights over the next several months. The utility will inspect 75 more locations to add lights later.

Hogsett signed an executive order bringing an end to the city’s 35-year moratorium on new, city-funded streetlights. The city said three factors were considered to prioritize the lights: community growth, neighborhood requests and public safety.

The Mayors Action Center is accepting requests for new streetlights. To make a request, call (317) 327-4MAC, Monday through Friday 7:30a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Here are the locations for the first 25 lights:
